A Thousand Mile Journey

Come and join Bruce and staff as VMC celebrates reaching the milestone of assisting over 1,000 formerly homeless individuals into housing! This week, George and Heather became the nine hundred ninety-ninth and one-thousandth persons to achieve housing since 2007 when VMC began to utilize the "Housing First" philosophy. Housing First is a social service model informed by the principle that people need the essential necessities like food and a place to live before attending to other life issues. For individuals struggling with addiction, mental and physical health, housing can be and is a resource or tool for recovery.
